Love the breakdown. Thanks for sharing. Trstda will be getting a call from me tomorrow or I can take my money to other ethical places. Also no wonder the Teachers Unions don’t care about the 67,000 students out of school in Gaza and haven’t asked for a ceasefire, smh.

Great piece. Glad you included the breakdown beyond the bond we hear about at times, it draws a much more clear picture of how much of our money is over there.

I hope we continue investing in Israel at even

Greater amounts.

Regarding domestic policy, the AFT and UFT have supported taking away Medicare and Medicare supplement from UFT retirees.

Forcing retirees into a for-profit Medicare Advantage plan poses life and death issues for UFT members who face life threatening diseases.

Shouldn’t that issue be put to the AFT and UFT membership?

UFT has no business taking sides in this.

It seems like by investing in these companies, the UFT is "taking a side". Can you say more about what you mean?

Expand full comment

TDA investments should be about getting a good return to support our pensions.

UFT shoulda only be engaged in educational issues or support for our members. Social action while it may be admirable is not the job of a union.

Not too mention that the particular issue is highly propagandized and divisive.

Hmm. The union, the city, and TRS have all divested before based on "social" concerns. Over the last several decades, they have divested from holdings benefitting apartheid South Africa, Russian holdings, holdings in gun manufacturing, and holdings in fossil fuel companies. Do you mind sharing to what extent you think those divestments were appropriate?

I want a good return on my investments, but at what cost? My pension money is being used to contribute to the deaths of Palestinian children. If divesting from Israel is what it takes to get the violence and apartheid to end, we should do it.
